Have you ever used the excuse “I would love to write a blog, but I don’t have the time and have no idea what to write about.” Me, too. Which, is why I am writing this post. Something has to be done so that more and more fresh content is produced for the info junkies glued to their gadgets and Google knows you exist. The most important part of writing frequent blog posts is having a list of topics that you can write about, as well as a place where you write down anything that you are inspired by throughout the day.
Here is an example of my potential titles that I could use for my
blog about communication and productivity in the workplace:
1. Use Podcasts and YouTube to learn something when doing mindless tasks
2. Quick Tips for Giving Public Talks
3. How the iPhone 5 Can Change Your Life
4. How to Make Your Work More Fun
5. Top 5 Professional Fonts
6. Managing Remote Staff Without Bugging Out or Bugging Them
7. Sugar as a Productivity Tool
Since the topic of my blog is quite broad it gives a great deal of opportunity to come up with a list of things to write about. Now, you might think that there is only so much that you can write about your business or that anything you would write about your industry would only encourage readers to take an afternoon nap, but do not fear, there is more out there than you realize. Start by looking at the news and other blogs and you will certainly get some ideas. Trust me, you will. And, if you have some ice cream you may even be funny when you get those fingers moving. To illustrate my point: here is an example of some topics that a personal injury lawyer could use to get started:
1. When the Dog Bites, When the Bee Stings: You Need a Lawyer
2. Are There People Who Really Chase Ambulances?
3. Paparazzi and Car Crash Cases
4. When To Settle: In Love and In Court
5. Top Ten Worst-Case Legal Scenarios
6. How to Find a Good Lawyer
7. Does Anyone Handle Slip, No Fall, Cases?
8. What Happens if you Lie to a Lawyer?
Now, these are a bit on the non-serious side, since I wrote them, but that list literally took me five minutes and I know almost nothing about personal injury law. Point is, get the ball rolling and brainstorm.
Now, I realize that my infrequent posting may indicate that I don’t always practice what I preach, so it is important to have a motivational strategy to get you to log off Facebook and in the writing zone. For me, YouTube motivational and self-discipline videos do the trick. Obviously, it has worked since this post actually exists! Thank you for your talk Brian Tracy. Practicing Self-Discipline and crossing off “Write Blog Post” from my list does feel good! Time for a cookie!
Thanks for reading. Jason.
