How to Use Twitter to Market your Medical Practice

Twitter will be crucial to the future of your medical practice. Searches for physicians and specialists are proliferating on the premier micro-blog. You need to be in front of current and prospective patients on Twitter to maintain a positive “bedside manner” between appointments.

Charlene Kingston wrote a gem for the Social Media Examiner titled “16 Creative Ways to Use Twitter for Business”: http://www.socialmediaexaminer.com/twitter-for-business/. I read the article after @Prepare1 reTweeted it. @Prepare1 is correct about recommending the article.

“16 Creative Ways” is far too broad in scope to cover in detail on Twitter Thursday. Ms. Kingston has uncovered a number of techniques that can work for your medical practice. There a number of tips that I am using and recommending. There are also quite a few that are new to @BeneficentGuild.

Recommended practices

  •  Organize the people that you Follow with lists
  •  Keep your photo updated
  •  Use a photo instead of a logo
  •  Keep your bio on Twitter updated
  •  Be careful about who you follow
  •  Listen carefully to your customers and the Twitterverse

Some great ideas from Charlene Kingston
  •
  • Keep a private conversation list
  • Specific instructions on how to change your background images
  • Have a Twitter landing page for your website
  • Organize a TweetUp to truly engage your community
  • Embed Tweets into your blog posts to leverage momentum from hot topics on Twitter

“16 Creative Ways to Use Twitter for Business” is being briskly reTweeted. What do you think about the ideas that Charlene shared? Have you been using Twitter in creative ways? Would you share your creativity with the readers of Twitter on LADezign.com, @LADezign?

I love infographics as they can explain complex concepts with a glance. Thanks to Next Generation SEO SMO for repinning this great infographic about Twitter’s future on Pinterest: http://pinterest.com/pin/115967759125365661/ . (I am still learning about to provide proper attributions on Pinterest so please forgive the medley of sources mentioned in my repin notes.)

Healthcare IT News has compiled an interesting group of physicians and HIT bloggers to follow. You can find them here: http://www.healthcareitnews.com/news/10-physicians-follow-twitter and here http://www.healthcareitnews.com/news/10-hit-bloggers-follow-twitter. @BeneficentGuild wants to know why Andy De, @HITstrategy, didn’t make their list.

Healthcare It News published a story before the dawn of history, “Twitter becoming essential tool for docs”, published on March 17, 2010 by Molly Merrill, Associate Editor: http://www.healthcareitnews.com/news/twitter-becoming-essential-tool-docs. The case for physicians using Twitter becomes stronger every day. Just remember that Twitter by its nature is never, never, never HIPAA compliant.
