Free Fridays
Protect your PC and get Malwarebytes Anti-Virus for free
Seriously, what do you do - especially if you are not a tech-savvy computer geek (like me).
And even worse what if you are a tech-savvy aficionado and it happens to you?
Well this unexpected surprise happened to me Wednesday afternoon when I was all set to leave work around 5:00pm and actually try to have dinner with the kids. Shame on me for trying I suppose.
What follows is the first of my new Free Fridays blog post series where I intend to give you access to free items available online.
These are not just freebies by the way.
The point of this blog series is to INJECT some sense of efficiency, protection and sometimes fun into your day so that you can do a little Hakuna Metata at your choosing without worrying about things as we are all wont to do with mortgages, tuitions, office politics and relationships constantly buzzing around in our heads.
This first Free Fridays post is about a fantastic piece of software called Malwarebytes.
First of all just download it and then install it. Make a copy and put it on a keydrive somewhere and store it in your desk drawer. Get Malwarebuytes here free.
When (and it will happen unfortunately) you do get infected here's what you need to do - and plenty of sites will give you similar guidance.
- Shut down your computer
- Boot it up (ie. turn on the power)
- Hold the F8 key down while it's turning on
- When you have the option, choose to boot into SAFE MODE
- Run the Malwarebytes software
- Once it is done running remove all the viruses it tells you about
- Close the program and reboot your machine
Here's what you need to know to make sure this process works to remove a virus.
If you try to do this without being in SAFE MODE it won't work.
Secondly, make it a habit to run the program once per week right when you start on your computer. it's a good habit to NOT break.
Happy fridays.
